Saving the Scene:
To start, we need to export the original scene so we can use it later for URP and HDRP.
- Under the Project tab, rename the original scene something like “Control_Room”
- Right click the renamed scene.
- Click “Export Package…”
- Save the file some where you can find it.
Starting a New URP Project:
I’m sure there is a way to convert your original project to a different pipeline but creating a new project and adding the scene from the last step is the easiest and fastest.
- Open the Unity Hub program.
- Click new project.
- Select the “3D Sample Scene (URP)”
- Edit the name and location how you like.
- Click Create Project.
- And open the new project.
Adding the Original Scene to the new Project:
After the new project is loaded, find the original scene that we exported in the first step. When found, drag it into the Project tab and then click Import when the Import Unity Package window pops up.
After the import is complete, double-click the imported scene.
When going from Standard Render Pipeline to URP, it will make all the textures pink. This is normal and is an easy fix. Here is how to fix it for the whole project:
- Click the Edit menu.
- Go down to Render Pipeline
- Universal Render Pipeline
- Then click “Upgrade Project Materials to UniversalRP Materials”.
This should fix all your problems!
That is how you enter the world of URP! Nothing has really changed visually yet, but we will get there!
